Batelco, Ericsson partner to offer next-gen 5G technologies in Bahrain

Batelco, a Bahrain-based telecommunication company, and Ericsson, the leading 5G network equipment provider, have recently entered into an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) for collaborating on the next generation 5G technologies and inventions in line with Kingdom of Bahrain's digital economy vision.

This latest MoU is a part of Batelco's endeavor to augment its network capabilities to attain future goals for 5G technology and support the development programs for new use cases that highlight the probability of 5G for consumers and enterprises.

Moreover, the MoU will cover partnership on Voice over NR (New Radio) and advanced Charging System, which will augment the real-time convergent charging of Batelco and empower the introduction of new innovative and smart Internet of Things (IoT) products.

Cloud-native 5G Core and 5G Standalone (SA) solutions will also be included in the MoU, which have earlier supported Ericsson and Batelco to accomplish their first 5G SA data call in the kingdom.

Mikkel Vinter, Chief Executive Officer, Batelco, said that as part of the firm's constant support for Bahrain's 2030 Vision, Batelco always tries to offer the best-in-class and the most up-to-date technologies for its customers.

At present, 5G in Bahrain is at the point of revealing a broad range of opportunities that are expected to be in line with the digital economy goals of the country.

Additionally, this MoU also seeks to discover ways to execute 5G technologies and gain advanced benefits for different industries in Bahrain.

By offering technical support to big industries in the Kingdom, Batelco looks forward to further contributing to the industries' growth.

This collaboration will further empower Batelco to strengthen its eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband) capabilities and address the swift growth in data traffic that comes with evolving automation and AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) applications in the country.

It will also support Batelco in delivering immersive media and cloud gaming experiences.
