BlueHalo obtains US Space Force’s contract for the SCAR programme

BlueHalo, an organization focused on providing industry-leading capabilities in areas of Space Technologies, Air & Missile Defense, Directed Energy, CNO, Multi-INT, C4ISR, and Healthcare, has reportedly obtained a contract of $1.4 billion for upgrading the satellite ops under the USSF (US Space Force) programme termed SCAR (Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource).

The firm obtained the contract from a direct reporting unit of the USSF, SpRCO (Space Rapid Capabilities Office).

Generally, the SCAR programme focuses on delivering satellite operations capabilities, including flexibility, optimizing automation and cohesion while enabling constant modernization. Under this programme, full lifecycle development will be taking place which will include commencing design to full-rate production.

BlueHalo will be offering innovative RF (radio frequency) solutions under the SCAR programme. It will be also deliver a comprehensive range of BADGER (broad area deployable ground terminal enabling resilient communication), which is developed on the MSDA technology.

This system can be used in several mission zones as it helps to establish communication between spectral, spatial and temporal targets.

BlueHalo, for ensuring this implementation successfully, is planning to partner with Kratos Defence and Security Solutions which will be providing OpenSpace platform, its software-defined satellite ground system.

The platform will support scalable deployments within the elastic and fully virtualized, and cloud-agnostic environment. It will also empower users with new services instantaneously, other than traditional hardware-based ground systems, which can take weeks and months.

Credible sources cite that around $160 Million will be given to Kratos for providing OpenSpace and other services, software and system elements.

Dan Gillings, President of BlueHalo, said that manufacturing the BADGER systems would occur in the new state-of-the-art campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This programme builds almost 60 new jobs for engineers and manufacturers and offers an exclusive opportunity for the customers, BlueHalo, and key suppliers to be co-located within the Albuquerque area.
