Giatec®& HeidelbergCement partner to digitally revamp the concrete sector

Giatec®, a leading provider of concrete testing technologies, has reportedly entered a strategic partnership with HeidelbergCement, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of building materials.

The Heidelberg-based company made a minority investment in Giatec to use its technology and expand its digital offerings to create top-class digital experiences for its consumers.

This planned alliance is focused around the concrete sector’s shared vision of carbon neutrality. The products offered by Giatec are impactfully sustainable. The company received funding from research organizations like the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program and Sustainable Development Technology Canada.

Giatec’s suite of licensed smart sensors helps construction companies and concrete producers worldwide with precise concrete monitoring from production and delivery to placement.

Consolidated with state-of-the-art AI algorithms, the real-time data from sensors is used by concrete makers to maximize concrete mixes with an almost 20% reduction of cement usage in some applications.

Considering the global production volume of concrete, this is a significant reduction in global carbon dioxide emissions equal to the level of taking millions of cars off the road.

According to HeidelbergCement’s Chief Digital Officer, Dennis Lentz, the company’s strategic investment in Giatec comes from the common vision of revolutionizing the concrete industry by expanding digitalization, using sophisticated sensing technologies, and reducing the concrete carbon footprint.

Lentz added that Giatec's unmatched mix of AI-based software and proprietary sensor technology allows substantial improvements in sustainability and efficiency from the facility to the job site.

On the other hand, Giatec CEO and Co-Founder, Pouria Ghods, cited that the planned alliance will augment Giatec's expansion to the global markets through HeidelbergCement ‘s global reach and on-ground operations in more than 50 countries.

For the unversed, Giatec’s software and hardware product suite has used advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and advanced NDT (non-destructive testing technologies) to steer innovation throughout the entire lifecycle of concrete and curb its carbon footprint.
