Mediatek to supply Dimensity 1000+ chipset for 5G smartphones in India

The company said that the first 5G chipset-based smartphones will roll out in the country in early 2021

With 5G technology already gaining grip in the US market, many technology companies and smartphone brands are now seeking to expand their business reach across emerging markets like India. Recently, Taiwanese fabless semiconductor firm, MediaTek Inc. announced that the company will supply its latest Dimensity 1000+ chipset for 5G smartphones in India.

Sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter claim that the smartphones would feature a 7nm Dimensity 1000+ chip that supports 5G capabilities as well as additional features like carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA), dual 5G SIM, and MediaTek’s exclusive 5G UltraSave power-saving technology.

Apart from this, the smartphones will also compose technologies like resolution upscaling, HDR10+ playback, MediaTek MiraVision, and AI Picture Quality, along with HDR-native ISP that supports around 64MP sensors and up to quad-camera sensors, and MediaTek HyperEngine for gaming purposes.

Speaking on the launch, Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager, Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek, said that India stands as one of the key consumers of data worldwide. The market is ready to reap the benefit of advanced 5G features such as seamless connectivity and transformative speed.

He stated that MediaTek is at the forefront of the 5G revolution and is working with leading smartphone brands to help supply 5G devices to consumers in India. The company’s latest Dimensity 1000+ chipsets will offer users with a premium experiences as telecom authorities in India head towards deploying 5G in the country, Lee said.

For the uninitiated, MediaTek is the fourth largest chipmaker in the world. The company had previously launched the MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset for mid-tier 5G smartphones during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2020 and had touted plans to partner with smartphone brands to launch new smartphones based on its Dimensity 800U chipset in India.
